The Stage 2 - HK rear door speaker upgrade kit includes (4) speakers to replace the rear door 2ohm woofers and door tweeters in the MK8 Golf R/GTI equipped with the Harman Kardon sound system only. Featuring custom 3D printed brackets to house the woofer and tweeters and fit into the OEM locations.
This kit includes;
- (2) Audison AP6.5(2 ohm) woofers with foam tape applied
- (2) Audison AP1P tweeters + harness
- (2) Door Speaker Brackets
- (10) 3/16 rivets
- (8) Speaker Mounting Screws
- (2) VW Plug&Play speaker harnesses (slightly different than the front ones)
- (4) 1" pieces of heat shrink tubing
Similar to the Focal ISVW155/ICVW165, these speakers will need to be riveted into place (rivet gun not included), followed by plugging in the harness to the positive/negative terminals of the speaker and then screwed into place using the supplied screws (harness connector pointing upwards - as seen in pictures). By employing this process and a shallower depth bracket - we were able to accommodate the use of true 6.5" speakers into the doors.

Please note: the speaker brackets can be used on either driver or passenger side they are identical. When riveting in the bracket it is a tight space and they will go in on a slight angle - be sure to keep pressure of the rivet and bracket on the door and give it at least 3 squeezes to tighten up against the door and break off. Also when mounting the speaker to the 3D printed bracket - the holes may not line up 100% but its okay to drill directly into the bracket as it will hold strongly or screw them in on a slight angle as well.
The Result? - Exceptionally detailed highs/treble thanks to the smoothness of the AP1P silk dome tweeters which makes for a much less harsh and fatiguing listening experience while bringing much more sparkle and clarity into the highs. It also provides improved bass, mid-bass definition, and clarity without sacrificing power due to the 2ohm AP6.5 mid-bass woofers (same impedance as OEM speakers) but with a larger cone surface and better material replacing the cheap rough paper woofers
Tools Required:
- Pry tools
- Rivet Gun
- Philips screwdriver/drill bit
- 3/16 drill bit (drill out OEM rivets)
- fine edge Pliers to cut off the remaining rivet head in the doors when removing the stock speaker
- Heat gun or small lighter for heat shrink tubing
- soldering pen or small drill bit to remove the stock Tweeter that is plastic welded into place
- Glue gun or Silicone to glue the upgraded tweeter in place followed by a piece of sound deadening material or foam to go over top and hold in place
- Sound deadening material for doors (optional but recommended)

I installed the front speakers only at first but icould definitely hear a difference in sound quality front to back fro the driver seat. If youre upgrading your front speakers definitely do the rears aswell. You will not regret it.
