Makes the radio so much clearer. And took about 10 minutes to install.
I've just fitted this STAGE 1 centre speaker from RS-Acoustics in my Mk8.5 Golf R. The sound has certainly improved; the thin and nasal tone hasn't completely disappeared, but the overall soundstage is more pleasant.
After a bit of experimenting with the equaliser, it became clear that the sound system's factory settings are rather peculiar and also explain the thin, nasal sound. With the new centre speaker, my settings are now roughly as follows:
Subwoofer: -2
100Hz: 0
350Hz: -5
1kHz: -5
3.5kHz: -4
10kHz: -3
I also have to mention the excellent customer service. I was pleasantly surprised to find a handwritten note from Phil at RS-Acoustics in the box, thanking me for the purchase and wishing me all the best with the new speaker. It made a crazy difference. The audio feels much more clear at higher volumes now. And for the price point you can’t beat it.
I was surprised by the significant improvement from just the center speaker. Really works well!
Best upgrade. Looking at upgrading the rest of the sound system soon
